This weekend, I’m headed up to Grand Marais—in the on-season this time. Off-season in Grand Marais is my favorite. It’s quiet, it’s cold, it’s empty. Over 1 million people visit Grand Marais during the summer, but in the winter this town is sleepy. This is the perk of living in a tourist town: you have the amenities of a bigger city (a co-op, good restaurants, great coffee), but for a few months a year, you have quiet that makes up for the onslaught of tourists in the summer months.
From Thursday-Monday, I’ll be live updating my thoughts about everywhere I’m eating while I’m here. All the food trucks closed in the off-season and a few restaurants that were closed for cleaning when I came last time were on my list. Then, in a few weeks, I’ll be posting my Grand Marais guide and a piece about how to be a better tourist when you visit the shore.
Want to follow along while I eat this weekend? These posts are for paid subscribers only! But… they’re the best part of Beyond Beurre Blanc and a lot of fun. So get in the pool (er, lake) and join us for a swim. You’ll also get some behind-the-scenes intel on pieces that are upcoming from me, many of which are focused on the shore.
